Scalp health begins with the balance between three interconnected biological systems that maintains its optimal state:

Barrier integrity

The scalp barrier is built within the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin. It is composed of tightly bound cells and lipids and follows the same biological principles as the skin barrier elsewhere on the body. This structure can be compared to brick and cement: the cells function as bricks, while the lipids between them act as natural cement, holding the structure in place. This organised architecture creates a protective layer that helps retain moisture and maintain a stable scalp environment. When the barrier remains strong, the scalp maintains hydration, elasticity and lasting comfort.

To support barrier integrity through hydration, we use a biomimetic complex inspired by the skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor. NMF, including glycerin, urea and sodium lactate, is naturally present in the skin and plays a central role in maintaining hydration and flexibility. It supports water balance within the stratum corneum, enhances corneocyte flexibility and helps reduce transepidermal water loss. Through these mechanisms, barrier function remains stable, and scalp comfort is preserved.

Physiological pH

The scalp is naturally coated with a thin hydrolipid layer that keeps its surface mildly acidic, typically within a pH range of 4.0 to 5.9. This slightly acidic setting supports how skin cells function, keeps lipids properly organised and helps the barrier function  efficiently. pH regulates the scalp environment, guiding microbial activity and maintaining surface order. When this balance is sustained, the scalp remains stable, comfortable and biologically aligned.

To maintain physiological pH, we use an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) complex that supports the scalp’s naturally mildly acidic environment. Through precise pH regulation, the scalp environment remains balanced and functionally aligned.

Microbiome harmony

The scalp is home to a diverse community of bacteria and yeasts that naturally inhabit its surface. These microorganisms are adapted to the scalp’s mildly acidic environment and function as part of its biological system. In a balanced state, the microbiome supports surface stability, regulates natural skin processes, and reinforces long-term scalp resilience. A stable microbial ecosystem helps maintain overall equilibrium and promotes lasting comfort.

To support microbiome harmony, we use prebiotic sugars together with the postbiotic amino acid sarcosine. This approach helps maintain the scalp’s natural ecosystem balance while supporting microbial stability and promoting long-lasting comfort.
